Congratulations, Gotye!

May 08, 2012 | posted by The Windish Agency

The Windish Agency would like to take a moment to congratulate Gotye on his chart-topping accomplishments as of late. Since his release of “Somebody That I Used To Know” back in July 2011, Gotye has been blazing charts worldwide. The song topped the Australian charts for an astounding eight weeks straight, the U.K. Singles Chart for five weeks, and was number one in 18 other countries as well. In the U.S., the song has been a true crossover hit, reaching the top spot on the Alternative Songs and Rock Songs charts, in addition to the Billboard Hot 100. Gotye’s hit song is the first by an Australian solo male to hit number one in the US since Rick Springfield released “Jesse’s Girl" 31 years ago.

Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John and Miike Snow invite you to join them in NY this Friday

April 26, 2012 | posted by The Windish Agency

Just last month, Swedish artists Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John, and Miike Snow announced that they had joined forces to create a new powerhouse label, Ingrid. Born to bolster a space for unadulterated creativity, the collective did not waste time with their first production.

On April 21 (and in honor of Record Store Day), the label released Ingrid Volym 1, a compilation of work from all of its members. Each of the 15 tracks can be streamed now at their SoundCloud.

This Friday, April 27, Ingrid invites you to celebrate with them at The Bowery Hotel in New York from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. As unique as its creators, the night with Ingrid will include live performances, Ingmar Bergman screenings and their new beverage concoction, Ingrid Drink. To RSVP, email rsvp@ingrd.com.

We hope you'll join in the festivities!

Windish in the News

These past few weeks have been an especially busy and ridiculously fun time for us – many of our artists played not one, but two, Coachella festivals to huge audiences, eliciting praise from some of our favorite publications, and of course, their fans. From January to the close of the year there are so many exciting shows and events to look forward to, and Coachella marks the beginning of one of our favorite phases, that of the summer festival season. We had some nice surprises as we kicked off this season, as it seems not only our hard work but our absolute love for our artists and live music in general got a little notice. You can check out some of the recent stories about our team below.

We thank everyone that graciously included us in their coverage. Now that we’ve had our 15 minutes of fame, it’s back to booking our own roster of superstars! See you at a show near you soon.

TWA announces the addition of agent Todd Walker and creation of a Performing Arts Division

April 23, 2012 | posted by The Windish Agency

The Windish Agency is happy to announce the addition of Todd Walker and the opening of a Performing Arts division within the company.

Todd is a veteran of the performing arts world and comes to the company from International Music Network (IMN) agency, where he was an agent for more than 12 years and was instrumental in signing international artists such as Norah Jones, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Angelique Kidjo. Todd is also the co-creator of NextGen, which has become a groundbreaking group to empower the next generation of arts presenters and managers.

“An incredible roster of artists to foster progressive collaborations with, an amazing group of agents, and stellar reputation within the industry are some of the primary reasons I’m ecstatic to be joining this agency,” commented Walker. “In addition, I’ll be able to achieve more with my artists with the support of this company and its deep connections. I think working with The Windish Agency is truly a perfect fit for my cultural mission and vision within the arts as audiences are shifting and venues embrace these new demographics.”

Todd will be based in Boston and brings with him the following artists:
Maceo Parker
Nitin Sawhney
Open Door featuring India.Arie and Idan Raichel

“We are constantly looking for ways to expand the reach of our clients, and booking them in performing arts centers is certainly a key component,” said Tom Windish, President, The Windish Agency. “We have done so with some remarkable success up to this point, and the addition of Todd, who possesses deep knowledge and immeasurable respect from clients and key leaders in this realm, will help us to successfully expand these efforts. I am also very excited about the opportunities our existing promoter and agent relationships will bring to new clients within this division.”

The Windish Agency already represents several prominent artists well ensconced in the performing arts world, including Pink Martini, Bebel Gilberto, Bajofondo, Bomba Estereo, Mexican Institute of Sound, SMOD, Jovanotti, Tortoise and newly signed Lindsey Buckingham. “I second Tom’s enthusiasm for growing our presence within the performing arts industry,” said Amy Davidman, agent and representative of most of the aforementioned artists for The Windish Agency. “There is a major shift occurring in the performing arts world, with new buyers responding to the appetite of an apt, younger audience. Buyers are increasingly interested in more of the artists we book, and, similarly, we are excited to work with them and to be at the forefront of this shift. I really look forward to collaborating with Todd on this division.”

Coachella: Weekend One

April 17, 2012 | posted by The Windish Agency

Kicked off with rain and unseasonably low temperatures, weekend one of Coachella was still a success. It was packed with talented artists from all over the world, some even in hologram form. The Windish Agency artists like Justice, Gotye, M83, tUnE-yArDs and many more performed to sold-out crowds. But even those not attending either weekend can enjoy the music, as the festival offers not only archived videos of the performances from weekend one but a live stream you can catch during weekend two.

Pollstar's Independent Booking Agency of the Year

February 06, 2012 | posted by The Windish Agency

Independent Booking Agency of the Year. This is not an award I ever expected us to win. It always seemed like the winners were more high profile than us.

Some view awards as trivial, but it's extremely satisfying to have won. I've been reading Pollstar for 20 years. I used to read it cover to cover. I'm happy that our peers recognize us for the hard work that we're doing and the way we help to develop bands. The Windish Agency is a movement. We represent independent artists who make music on their own terms, and many of them are incredibly successful doing it. We love the music that our clients create. We're very proud to be a part of that, and I can't think of a more satisfying thing to do.

Thanks to everyone at our company for the hard work they do every day. Special thanks to the people that have been with me since the very beginning.

Also, I would not be here without the following people, and I'm incredibly indebted to them for seeing something in me at a point when few others did: Boche Billions, Jason Koffman, Sue Miller, Julia Adams, Bruce Finkelman and Sam Hunt.

Trust me when I say this, the best is yet to come. It's my life's pursuit to make sure that is true for everyone who is part of this.

- Tom Windish, president and founder
