Bumbershoot took place this past labor day weekend in Seattle, Washington. It is one of North America's largest music festivals, and is held annually at Seattle Center. This year, Little Dragon proved to be "a definite highlight of Day 1" with their "smooth, crisp percussion and interesting, adventurous keys and synth". The seven-piece band AgesandAges "not only filled up the entire stage, but also filled up the venue with a long line of people waiting to get into EMP to see them", and delivered "a feel-good type of show that lifts the listener’s spirits high". On Sunday, Phantogram played a "suave and sharp" set to a crowd who were into their thudding beats and ghostly vocal melodies.

The Lollapalooza music festival took place in Chicago’s Grant Park this past weekend. This year, the festival celebrated its 20th anniversary and from what we experienced, it was the best one yet. Some Friday highlights include Foster The People’s packed performance at the Sony Stage, where countless crowd surfers were “passed around like beach balls” and The Naked And Famous’s energetic performance that made the the neon-clad teens in the crowd freak out. Alice Glass from Crystal Castles “jumped around like a high school kid freshly sprung from school for the summer" during their set, and the sugary sweet tunes of Cults were very fitting for their breezy, sunny midafternoon performance. Take a look at photos of Girl Talk closing out Day One with what was “unquestionably one of hottest, sweatiest, uninhibited, cramped and high-energy sets in Lollapalooza's two-decade history.” Saturday featured Lykke Li’s “twirling, percussive presence onstage,” which you can check out photos of here. Phantogram kept the crowd entranced at the Sony Stage and Super Mash Bros turned Perry’s into a raging house party. The rain didn’t stop Best Coast from delivering a full, and fun set of sunny songs on Sunday while hidden gem Lia Ices put on an engaging performance.
The sixth annual Pitchfork Music Festival took place this past weekend in Chicago’s Union Park. Despite the heat, the fest proved to be a success yet again. It’s difficult to pick out all the highlights from the whirlwind weekend, but an obvious one was Animal Collective’s headlining set on Friday. The New York Times said, “at every turn, there was a new bolt of sound, a shamanistic yelp, or a rough patch of unexpected crevices that demanded attention,” creating an environment that was inescapable. James Blake also grabbed some attention on Friday – there was “no breaking the trance he had put the audience under.” Gang Gang Dance “ruled the afternoon” on Saturday, but Twin Shadow’s “head-bobbing grooves” and Zola Jesus’s voice “soaring through the crowd” were not to be missed either. A broken foot didn’t keep Odd Future from taking over on Sunday. Sunday also brought a massive dance partycourtesy of Cut Copy’s hook-filled electro-pop and a mesmerizing set from Deerhunter, which you can watch clips of here.

You can watch clips of both performances over at Rolling Stone. Twin Shadow was another not to miss act this year- "the group's live show transformed George Lewis Jr.'s intimate debut Forget- where the Twin Shadow main brain played all of the instruments- into a freewheeling full-band boogie fest".
