We at The Windish Agency are extremely saddened at the news of Vic Chesnutt's passing on December 25, 2009. We were fortunate enough to have worked with Vic recently, and were amazed by his passion, creativity, and artistic integrity. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Vic's family and friends. He will be missed.
A website has been established to help raise funds for Vic's family.
The clip for "Lessons Learned" by Matt & Kim continues to rule 2009, even as the year draws to a close. After winning a Moonman and a Woodie, Pitchfork named it one of the best clips of the year, and now Myspace calls it the Best Video of 2009. Congrats, Matt & Kim!
Pitchfork published their list of the 50 best records of 2009 and we here at The Windish Agency could not be more proud. 2009 was an incredible year at The Windish Agency. Although it may be drawing to a close, we have a whole host of artists making sure the year ends on a high note. It wasn't too long ago that we had the pleasure of reporting Matt & Kim's "Breakthrough Video" win at the MTV Video Music Awards. Things couldn't get any better than that, right?
Wrong. The ball hasn't stopped rolling, and this week the powers that be at MTV added one more gem to the energetic duo's crown by handing them the honor for "Best Video" at the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards, again for their kinda, sorta risqu\xC3\xA9 "Lessons Learned" clip.

We here at The Windish Agency are deeply saddened to learn that Jerry Fuchs, drummer for The Juan Maclean, passed away early Sunday morning.
Jerry was an incredible talent whose inimitable presence behind the drum kit gave liftoff to the music of any project he touched. Through the years, he performed with many notable acts. In addition to The Juan Maclean, Fuchs also spent time in Turing Machine, !!!, and most recently Georgia-based experimental rock group Maserati.
Our condolences to Jerry's family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Another outstanding CMJ Music Marathon has come and gone, which means we're well on our way to waving goodbye to 2009 altogether. While we look forward to doing it all again next year, for now it's time to catch up on some much needed sleep!
Not to sound biased or anything, but of all the many events we attended during this year's CMJ, we had the most fun at our own showcase at Santos Party House last Saturday. A special thanks to all of our Artists who performed, to the staff at Santos, and to those of you that showed up to catch the bands --- you helped make it one of the most exciting shows all week!
In case you didn't get the memo, we're a day and a half into the annual CMJ Music Marathon, and New York City is currently pulsing with the sounds of hundreds of performers and the the thunderous stampede of music fans hurrying from venue to venue in a mad dash to catch every set. Not one to get left out on the action, The Windish Agency has its own big bash in store for this Saturday (10/24), when we take control of both levels at Santos Party House for what we're convinced will be the party of the week.
We're now just a little over a week away from one of independent music's biggest events: the sprawling, five-day CMJ Music Marathon. From October 20 to October 24, artists, fans, and music industry professionals won't even have a chance to rest as they race from venue to venue across New York City. Each year countless acts perform back to back sets throughout the five boroughs, big names bring packed crowds into venues far too small for comfort (that's the sacrifice you make), and perhaps most notably, a handful of previously unknown acts burst into the greater musical consciousness with noteworthy performances. The Windish Agency is extremely proud to have an incredible thirty one acts performing at this year's Marathon!

We are deeply saddened by the news that Beau Velasco, a founding member of The Death Set, passed away on Sunday, September 27. All of us here at The Windish Agency would like to extend our deepest condolences to Beau\xE2\x80\x99s family and friends.
In addition to many loved ones, Beau leaves behind a rich musical legacy. He met Johnny Siera in 2005, a time during which both lived and worked in Australia\xE2\x80\x99s Gold Coast. Not long after meeting, the two formed The Death Set, relocating several times before settling in Baltimore, where they became one of the burgeoning scene\xE2\x80\x99s best-loved acts. They issued several singles and EPs prior to the July 2008 release of the critically acclaimed debut full length, "Worldwide," a collection of songs in which Beau's influence can be heard through and through. Both his presence and his artistic voice will be greatly missed.
From all the noise the media has been making, one might think that the biggest news to emerge from last week's MTV Video Music Awards was a certain hip-hop superstar's unexpected outburst and the accompanying fallout. But here at The Windish Agency, the big news is that our own Matt & Kim and their head-turning video for "Lessons Learned" were the winners for Breakthrough Video! The duo came out above fellow Windish artists Major Lazer and Chairlift (for "Hold The Line" and "Evident Utensil," respectively) in the same category, as well as other talented nominees.
The news is out! The Windish Agency would like to extend a massive congratulations to Speech Debelle, who has just been announced as the winner of the 2009 Mercury Prize, one of the UK's most sought-after musical honors! One of the newest artists on our roster, Speech took home the Mercury on the strength of her stunning debut album, Speech Therapy, which saw release in the United States just last month.
Tomorrow marks the kickoff of Peanut Butter Wolf's much anticipated 999 Tour! A triumphant nine-day march across California in keeping with PBW's 777 and 888 events over the past two years, the 2009 festivities begin with a Stone's Throw showcase at Pomona's Glasshouse, featuring Prince Paul, DJ Muggs, Dam-Funk, Mayer Hawthorne, and the man himself!

The Windish Agency would like to offer a huge congratulations to Z-Trip, who has just come out on top in the annual America's Best DJ competition, as voted upon by readers of DJ Times magazine! In a crowded field of many talents, the Los Angeles-based artist's jaw-dropping skill and impressive credentials set him apart from the competition.
From his role as "Godfather" of the mash-up movement to his incredible remix work, from his critically acclaimed album Victory Lap (his tribute to Obama's election) to routinely igniting packed dancefloors across the globe, Z-Trip is a true original in his own time. Hats off to America's Best DJ 2009!

It hasn't been very long since the last time we told you about a slew of new additions to our roster, but guess what...
The Windish Agency is pleased to announce the addition of Derek Becker to our staff of agents. Derek officially begins work with The Windish Agency on July 13, 2009, and will bring the following artists to the Windish roster: Baby Dee, Bert Jansch, Extra Golden, LAKE, Mucca Pazza, Rafter, and Wovenhand.

Derek comes to us from Satellite Booking, the Chicago-based company he founded in July 2003. He began his career as an agent booking tours for local emerging artists like Bobby Conn and Edith Frost, and over time grew to represent a wide range of acts, both national and international, including The Clean, Silver Jews, Pit Er Pat, and Viva Voce.
According to The Windish Agency president Tom Windish, \xE2\x80\x9CDerek will easily fold into our organization. He already shares our methods and values in developing successful touring careers for his clients.\xE2\x80\x9D
Through hard work, an understanding of the artist\xE2\x80\x99s needs, and a willingness to try new and different approaches, Derek has established himself as a valued booking agent, and The Windish Agency is happy to welcome him aboard.

This summer's Pitchfork Music Festival has announced the final lineup, and it looks like a continuation of what is fast becoming a tradition of excellence! This year's festival takes place July 17-19, and will once again be held at Chicago's Union Park!

Our DJ roster was well represented at this year's Beatport Music Awards, with Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs serving a swift one-two punch in the "Best Breaks Artist" category, and Benga and Rusko taking top honors for the Dubstep genre ("Best Dubstep Artist" and "Best Dubstep Track" ("Cockney Thug"), respectively). Other winners include Nightmares on Wax (taking the bronze for "Best Chill Out Artist"), Ellen Allien (third place for "Best Electronica Artist"), Justice and Mr. Oizo (second and third place for "Best Indie Dance Artist"), Radio Slave (third place for "Best Techno Artist"), and SebastiAn (came in second for "Best Indie Dance Track" for his track "Momy").
